Recap of the Volta-Xchange Conference 2024: Impulses for the future of the energy transition
On 14 March 2024, the Volta-Xchange conference had a successful premiere at Messe Stuttgart. Representatives from the worlds of industry, science and politics gathered for a one-day exchange on the crucial topics of energy supply, storage solutions and sector coupling.

The agenda for the conference was defined by a presentation by Carola Best from the German IPCC Coordination Centre on the latest Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on global warming, its effects and potential adaptation strategies. Dr Mirko Sauer from Brahms Nebel law firm presented an overview of EU energy policy in the context of the Fit55 programme. Florian Galler from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Protection presented solutions for energy communities in Austria.
Political impetus at state level was provided by Ministerial Director Dr Michael Münter (Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector), who underlined the central role of flexibility and emphasized the importance of sector coupling.
Jörg Blaurock from 3 Energie Consulting presented the BVES industry figures for 2023/24, which provided a comprehensive picture of the development of the storage sector including trends, expectations and challenges.
These topics were explored more closely in the workshops, where renowned companies such as ADS Tec, EnBW, GP Joule, BayWa r.e., Option‑e, ads-tec Energy, Aral pulse, APCOA PARKING Holdings GmbH, Transnet BW, Indrivetec and FRoSTA AG presented and discussed various projects and solutions in the areas of charging infrastructure, neighbourhood solutions and the decarbonisation of industry.. The day was rounded off with a panel discussion on the energy transition with sector coupling, followed by an exclusive evening networking event.
