Path set for 2025: BVES Annual General Assembly and Annual Conference 2024
On 28 November 2024, the annual general meeting of the German Energy Storage Systems Association (BVES) in the historic Turbinenhalle Moabit. Alongside a review of the previous year’s achievements, the event also focused on setting the course for 2025. Particularly encouraging is how the positive development of the energy storage industry is reflected in the growing number of members. With almost 100 new member companies this year alone and a further 20 applications for admission in 2025, the BVES continues to be on the road to further success.

The general meeting began with the reports of BVES President Thomas Speidel and Federal Managing Director Urban Windelen. The agenda included the 2023 annual financial statement, the 2025 budget and the by-election of a cash auditor. A highlight was the unanimous adoption of the motion to amend the BVES statutes.
Annual conference: focus on safety and political impetus
The BVES annual conference, which was dedicated to the safety of energy storage systems, started at 2:00 p.m. Florian Hölting and Mark Junker presented the results of a recent study by RWTH Aachen University, which once again demonstrated the high level of safety and reliability of modern energy storage technologies.
The political framework conditions for the industry were also a key topic: Andreas Jung MdB (CDU/CSU) presented his party’s energy agenda in his keynote speech and discussed the challenges and opportunities for the industry with the participants.
Workshops and expert talks: practical and forward-looking
The rest of the conference was dedicated to specialist lectures and workshops on practical topics such as standardisation, cybersecurity, explosion protection and insurance for storage technologies. Participants were given insights into the latest developments in stationary battery systems and updates on the further development of the BVES safety guidelines. Particular attention was paid to the role of insurance as a safety instrument for the industry.
