Germany’s Energy Storage Systems Association (BVES) was the only association from Germany involved and contributed its expertise to the editing of the report and reviewed the working version of the report.
The key takeaways from the report include:
- Role of batteries: The report emphasises the important role that batteries play alongside renewable energies as a competitive, safe and sustainable alternative to energy generation from fossil fuels.
- Potential: It highlights the scaling potential and versatility of storage systems that can contribute to the integration of renewable energies and to ensuring a reliable supply of electricity.
- Growth of the battery market: The report emphasises the increasing growth potential of the battery market due to falling prices and rising demand in the energy technology sector.
- Appeal to politicians: The IEA urges political decision-makers to remove barriers to storage and to take political measures to promote the development and use of battery technologies.
The BVES has a long-standing co-operation with the IEA. In February 2024, BVES Managing Director Urban Windelen and Vice President Dr Andreas Hauer were personally invited to the high level workshop in Paris for the development of strategic guidelines for this analysis.
