BVES Experts Forum at the Week of the Environment: Focus on energy storage systems
Germany’s Energy Storage Systems Association (BVES) organized an expert forum focusing on energy storage as part of the Week of the Environment. Beatrice Schulz (BVES), Hanne Karrer (ZAE Bayern), Ariane Lautenschläger (Vattenfall Hydropower), Dimitrina Lang (KRAFTBLOCK) and Inga Landgrebe (GP JOULE) gave a comprehensive overview of various storage technologies and their applications in the fields of electricity, heat and mobility in their presentations. Additionally, they offered insights into a future energy system based 100% on renewable energies and demonstrated how a zeolite storage system works.

Beatrice Schulz, Head of Department Technologies and Markets at BVES: “The President’s Environment Week was a great opportunity to present the diverse functions of energy storage systems to both a professional audience and the general public. Various solutions for the energy transition are already available and are making a decisive contribution to enabling the energy transition. It is vital that everyone is aware of this added value.”
A total of around 190 exhibitors presented their innovations and solutions for greater environmental protection at the “Week of the Environment” 2024 in the park of Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the Federal President. The event aimed to draw attention to current climate protection issues and present new solutions and innovations.
Energy storage as a solution for the energy transition
The innovation show was dedicated to highly relevant aspects of climate, protection: climate neutrality and energy security, hydrogen technology, biodiversity and resource protection, sustainable change and social solidarity. On 4. and 5 the of June, the discussions and the panel of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on the main stage as well as more than 70 expert forums provided fresh impetus and ideas.
Energy storage systems also play a decisive role in this discussion. These are already widely used in private households, industry and commerce as well as in system infrastructure to secure grid stability and supply security, advance decarbonization and increase energy efficiency.
The BVES was selected as the organizer of the expert forum after a competitive application process. A high-caliber jury from academia, business and the public sector reviewed around 400 applications as part of a nationwide competition.
The “Week of the Environment” was launched in 2002 by the then Federal President Johannes Rau and has since been organized in cooperation with the German Federal Environmental Foundation, which is based in Osnabrück.
